We hire jail and patrol deputies four times per year. The first step in the process is to apply with Washington County. 

The hiring process includes:

  • Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT)
  • Pre-screen background check
  • Q&A Night
  • Video & pre-suitability test
  • Ride-alongs, jail shadows and background interviews (Background Interviews may be Online.  Ride-Alongs & Job Shadows may be postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions)
  • Background investigation notifications
  • Portfolio review notifications
  • Panel interviews
  • Command interviews & conditional job offers
  • Start of in-house academy

Out-of-state applicants: After the preliminary background check, you will need to visit WCSO on a prescheduled date. You will need to be here for 1 to 5 days, depending on COVID guidelines at that time. 

  • Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT)
  • Q&A Night (online)
  • Background interview: will take about 3 hours, may be completed online when you return home
  • Video & pre-suitability test: will take about 3 hours
  • Patrol ride-along: May be postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions
  • Jail shadow: May be postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions
  • Background investigation notifications
  • Portfolio review notifications
  • Command interviews & conditional job offers
  • Start of in-house academy
