We hire jail and patrol deputies four times per year. The first step in the process is to apply with Washington County.
The hiring process includes:
- Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT)
- Pre-screen background check
- Q&A Night
- Video & pre-suitability test
- Ride-alongs, jail shadows and background interviews (Background Interviews may be Online. Ride-Alongs & Job Shadows may be postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions)
- Background investigation notifications
- Portfolio review notifications
- Panel interviews
- Command interviews & conditional job offers
- Start of in-house academy
Out-of-state applicants: After the preliminary background check, you will need to visit WCSO on a prescheduled date. You will need to be here for 1 to 5 days, depending on COVID guidelines at that time.
- Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT)
- Q&A Night (online)
- Background interview: will take about 3 hours, may be completed online when you return home
- Video & pre-suitability test: will take about 3 hours
- Patrol ride-along: May be postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions
- Jail shadow: May be postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions

- Start of in-house academy
