The first step in becoming a sheriff’s deputy in Washington County — even before applying — is to take the National Testing Network exam. Want to become a jail deputy? Register for the Corrections REACT exam. Want to become a patrol deputy? Register for the Law Enforcement Frontline National exam.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office administers the exam twice every hiring cycle, for a total of eight times throughout the year. Applicants can also take the exam in locations throughout Oregon and 30 other U.S. states.

This session for the Law Enforcement Frontline National exam takes place on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 5:30-9:30pm at the new Public Safety Training Center in Hillsboro. Space is limited and registration is required.

Media Release RESULTS: Enhanced Safety Belt & Child Safety Seat Patrols

On February 16, 2020, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office completed a joint effort to educate the public about safety belt and child seat laws. During the two week period, the Sheriff’s Office completed nearly 1,500 traffic stops, mostly for speeding. The good news to share is that safety belt violations generated a low percentage of the traffic stops, but speeding and mobile phone usage still remain an issue.

Here are the results:

Total Traffic Stops: 1,498 (between 2/3/20 – 2/16/20)
🚗 Speed: 486 (32%)
📞 Operating motor vehicle while using mobile electronic device: 146 (9%)
⛔️ Fail to obey traffic control device: 144 (9%)
🚔 Safety belts: 41 (<3%)
