We Value Veterans

There’s no hiding the connection between military service and law enforcement. We actively seek veterans because we know their training, experience, discipline and selflessness is unrivaled. We like to think of a career at WCSO as a continuation of what you started in the Marines, Air Force, Navy, Army or Coast Guard.

  • Roughly one-third of our staff, including Sheriff Pat Garrett himself, have served or continue to serve in the military
  • Veterans receive more “points” in our hiring process / Competitive edge in hiring process – your service career is valuable, veterans receive additional “points”
  • A degree is great but not necessary
  • We will waive your employment testing fee if conducted at Camp Pendleton on October 25

Show Your True Colors

We don’t adhere to a universal mold when recruiting deputies. We value all life experiences, interests and quirks that make you, well, YOU. The only thing we ask is that you share our core values of doing your best, doing the right thing, and treating others the way you want to be treated.

  • Grow out your beard and hair (within reason)
  • Show off your tattoos
  • Feel welcome for who you are in Oregon’s most diverse county and second most populated

write your story

We are poised to have the best trained and most agile deputies in law enforcement today. We believe in and support the individuals who work for us and continue to pursue the most modern equipment, tactics and training for our deputies. With an abundance of different career paths, your future at WCSO is what you make of it.

  • Join a special team like K9, marine patrol, tactical response, court security, robots, motorcycle, detectives, alternative jail programs, search and rescue and countless more
  • Craft your professional skills in our brand new, state-of-the-art training facility, complete with scenario village and jail, indoor firearms range, physical training rooms and an emergency vehicle operations course
